Why It’s Okay to Be Wary of Wedding Vendors (And How to Find One You Can Trust)

couple trusting wedding vendors during planning

Trusting your wedding vendors isn’t something you should take lightly. Although maybe you’ve felt hesitant, you’re not alone. If you’re planning a wedding right now, you’ve probably noticed that everyone and their algorithms has something to say. Do this. Don’t do that. Book this vendor now. Wait, scratch that; now you’re “behind.”

It’s no wonder that so many engaged couples, especially Millennials and Gen Z, don’t fully trust wedding vendors.

And honestly? You shouldn’t trust everyone. Not until they earn it.

A Wake-Up Call (Even for Us Pros)

I recently attended a WIPA meeting where Adrienna McDermott of Ava and The Bee gave one of the most honest and refreshing talks I’ve recently heard. She laid it out plainly: today’s couples are skeptical, and rightfully so. Additionally you’re being bombarded with flashy marketing, vendor highlight reels, and promises that don’t always hold up.

She even shared a story about a planner with tons of followers who only booked one wedding. One. That moment was a bell ringing in my head. It confirmed what I already know deep down: followers are not the same as trust. And trust has to be earned the old-fashioned way; by showing up, listening, and walking the walk.

Let Me Introduce Myself: The Real Me

Trusted PNW Wedding Planner at Hidden hand Events

I’m Diana, the co-founder (and mother half) of Hidden Hand Events. I planned weddings full-time for nearly a decade before taking a long hiatus. I returned to this industry not because I had to, but because I wanted to. I came back with more clarity, more soul, and a better understanding of what matters. Plus, my daughter (Jess) asked me and I couldn’t have been more thrilled to work with her!

I’ve seen trends come and go. I’ve worked in fancy hotels and rustic barns. I’ve seen couples laugh through rainstorms (literally an unforeseen flash-flood!) and cry happy tears in parking lots. What has stayed true through all of it? Relationships. Trust. Intuition. Knowing who you’re working with; not just their portfolio, but their energy. At Hidden Hand Events, we believe that trusting your wedding vendors should feel like a natural extension of your relationship.

What Today’s Couples Are Doing Right

Adrienna’s talk reminded me how wise this generation of couples really is. You’re taking your time. You’re not getting tricked by follower counts or editorial-only content. You want to work with someone who feels like a safe pair of hands. Someone who actually cares about what this day means.

And that is exactly how it should be.

You deserve to feel calm, seen, and heard. You deserve a planner who doesn’t need to hype you into a frenzy just to make the sale. That’s not me. I’m here when you’re ready, not pressuring you when you’re not.

Why Experience Still Matters

My nearly 10 years of experience mean I can spot problems before they happen. I know what you don’t need to worry about, and what absolutely needs attention early on. there is more than just timelines and checklists. I bring a sense of calm. I know how to protect your day, your vision, and your peace of mind. My mama-bear instincts definitely kick in!

My daughter Jess and I work together as a mother-daughter team. Our vibe is soulful, intentional, and always real. We work best with couples who don’t just want a wedding. They want a meaningful experience. We’re not for everyone, but we might just be perfect for you.
